Amazon Affiliate

You may have noticed the Amazon ad thingy on the right side. Over there ———->

Well today is a landmark day! Someone clicked through and actually bought something! I added the Amazon Affiliate ads because - I really like Amazon, I order from them all of the time. I thought if I list stuff I like and people get them through here, maybe the site can pay for itself. I don’t want to bombard my friends with crap to buy, just recommend some items, and if they get them through a visit here, great!

So to whomever bought the “Water Sentinel Replacement Fridge Filter”, a sincere thank you! I have now made $1.97 to date! So if you like the site and you want to buy something from Amazon. Just click on the banner (over there —>) and then order normally and they give me a few cents for sending them their way. It doesn’t cost you anything and it helps defer the cost of the site.

Pink Tutu Project

Bob Carey - The Pink Tutu Project

I worked in the same Phoenix, AZ photography studio with Bob Carey - oh like, 30 years ago? Wow.

I have been following his Pink Tutu Photos for a while now, I am fascinated by the pictures. The photo project is a tribute to his wife Linda and her fight with breast cancer. I think the compositions are spectacular!

“The mission of The Tutu Project is to raise funds to cover the cost of self-publishing Ballerina. It’s also the story of doing good while doing well;Ballerina is a book all about a man, his pink tutu and raising funds for women with breast cancer.”

Bongo Ties

Bongo Ties these are the handiest little buggers. Just a rubber band with a little plastic piece on it that looks like the tops of 2 golf tees put together. While bouncing around Baja in my buddies 4WD I found a new use for it. So I snapped some pics.

Netflix on Tivo

I have had Netflix streaming on various platforms for a while. They all work a bit different, but the UI always seems to let you pick up where you left off. I have been watching “Damages” recently, and the difference between AppleTv and the Mac Netflix, and Sony Playstion 3 follow this model. Depending on where I am at, I switch platforms, and pick up an episode where I left off.

But the comparison between those and the TIVO app are night and day. The Tivo app does not recognize where you left off, not even what season you are watching. The Tivo app makes me scroll through every episode and hopefully I remember where I left off. In other words, the Tivo Netflix app sucks! I love Tivo but this bit of technology Cul-de-sac is one I could do without!

Cox Cable & Tivo

I have had Cox Cable since I moved to a Irvine Apartment Community 6 years ago. I could possibly use DirecTv or Dish but my apartment is facing the opposite direction from where the dish wants to point to. I had a reboot moment this week when I could get the main Cox channels but not the HD channels. When I called Cox they reset the DVR and I went from all but HD channels to no channels at all. So if they can’t remote control their own equipment… I figure I would shut it down, or go for something else.

I had bought a Tivo Premiere XL on Woot.com many months ago but I had not activated it. I finally got fed up with the Cox equipment, I almost quit cable altogether. But I thought, I have this Tivo box all I have to do is get a cable card and set it up.

I went to the Cox retail store and it went very smoothly. He gave me some numbers that I haven’t had to use but I have the numbers, for something.

I went through all of the steps of setting up the Cable Card on the Tivo. They give you an extra little cable modem kinda box that goes between the wall cable and the Tivo. It is a bit more complicated than the cable co. supplied gear. But right now everything is working except my Premium Channels HBO and SHO.

The one thing I notice is I LOVE the Tivo interface! I had it a long time ago when I was on DirecTv. It has a very refined UI. Oh my it is so much better! One thing I did not expect is that Cox Cable looks better, more definition, than I saw on the Cox Equipment. The live viewing looks better and the recordings look WAY better!
